Need help determining if my issue is with the inverter or LCD display
My Dell Inspiron 1545 display is no longer working on my laptop. Depending on what is loading, I get vertical lines or will see fading black on the screen with white boxes. I'm able to connect a monitor to the VGA port and can see the display so from F12 I ran the diagnostics. The error message I receive is:
Device LCD
LCD Connection Test
Error 0321
Message Error Code: 2000-0321
I searched against the errors and reseated the cable on the board with no difference. So the only conclusions I came up with for this problem is either the LCD Inverter (H251M - $25) is bad, or the LCD display (R801J $175) is bad.
Is there any way I can confirm which is the bad part or is trial and error the only way.

A faulty inverter simply makes the screen go black - this is not an inverter problem.
Reseat both ends of the cable that runs between the mainboard and display panel, and check it for damage. if it's damaged, replace the cable. If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the panel.

Hi Mski35,
Let me first appreciate the fact that you have tried the steps yourself to isolate the issue.
It is very difficult to isolate if it’s a LCD inverter failure or the LCD itself. In such scenarios I would recommend to replace the LCD inverter first and then if the issue persists we might need to replace the LCD kit.
