Laptop Motherboard Compatibility

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R with Windows 7, which by reading on the internet I think the motherboard has quit working.  I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 that has a good motherboard (and has Windows Vista) in a bad cracked case between keyboard and screen. This laptop works, but it is not easy to use due to case. How can I find if the motherboards are compatible without tearing both apart? I would like to put the Inspiron 1545 motherboard in the Inspiron 15R.

There are two models that share boards -- the 3521 and 5521.   Only those boards will fit.  Further, the CPU in these systems is soldered to the board - replacing a mainboard means replacing the CPU as well.

There are over a dozen 15R models - all different, with different boards that are not interchangeable.  The 1545 board will not fit any 15R model.

To determine which board will fit, we need to know which 15R you have - i.e., Inspiron N5110, N5010, 5521, etc.  They're all very different from each other.
