How do I upgrade my wifi?
Hi
I have an Inspiron 6400 with XP Pro SP3. I would like to upgrade the original 3945ABG to a 4965AGN to use with my Netgear N600 dual band router.
Which 4965AGN should I use?
How many antenna?
Which driver?
Hope someone can help
Thanks
Vic

Hi Vic,
Dell Inspiron 6400 supports the WLAN Mini-Card. You can customize the system with 4965AGN mini card. But Dell has not tested this card on this particular system and for drivers you may have to refer to manufacturer website.

Hi Ravi
Thanks. Some of these cards on ebay are MM1 and other MM2, even new ones. Is this significant?
I have been offered a mm2 one pulled from a Dell Studio XPS 13 - would that be OK in an Inspiron 6400?

Hi Vic,
The difference between the MM1 and MM2 is the software version difference of the wireless card. the MM1 card is limited to channels 1 through 11 in the 2.4 GHz band (U.S. FCC allowance) while the MM2 card can connect to channels 1 through 13 in the 2.4 GHz band. Also the MM2 seems to be better for the 5 GHz band as well.
