Equallogic or Compellent

Previously we have been told by Dell sales people that if you were looking at needing more than 200TB of storage it was time to start looking at using Compellent rather than Equallogic.  Today we are sitting at 286TB of usable storage and looking at adding another 250TB to meet projected growth (active data, replicas and backups) and curious if that guideline still holds true with the new units (doesn't take many 6500s with 3TB drives to go over 200TB capacity) and the upcoming 6.x firmware release.

Michael Davis,

Technically you can have up to 8 members in a group so if you had 8 of the PS6500 arrays with the 3TB drives you could reach the amount of space that you need. However When you start getting into that much space needed for your data you may want to start looking into the Compellent line. For example the link below is for the new Compellent array.

So it sounds like the guideline of 200TB+ being when Compellent fits the puzzle better still holds true.

Not real familiar with the Compellent line, what features/technologies make it more suited to high capacity environments than the Equallogic series?
