Hi

Unlike Centera, ECS was designed as a multi-site platform with a global namespace and there are some instances where this results in subtle differences that are surfaced to the application layer.  One example of this occurs when using EVault and it's "safe copy" check of the "replica" to ensure that the Centera replication queue has been able to catch up and write the "backup" copy of the object to the DR site. Since ECS implements a strong consistency model, the latencies of such a replication queue don't exist in ECS and you can be assured that an object that is written to one Virtual Data Center (VDC) in a Replication Group will also be available to all other VDCs in that replication group.  The more advanced multi-site architecture implemented by ECS therefore eliminates the need for the EV "Safe Copy" verification.

The ECS Streamer software will be available for download from support.emc.com soon, in the meantime if you ask your EMC sales team they can get you a copy.

Hi Paul,

Sorry for replying to an old topic, but I have tried to find the ECS streamer installer on the support pages, but so far haven't been able to find it. I'm working with a customer that is using Enterprise Vault with EMC Centera and we are looking for a way to move to ECS. As I understand there is a tool that is able to move the Centera data to the ECS and the ECS has a Centera like API so that on the EV side there is not a lot we need to do other than reconfigure the existing Centera partitions. For new archived data we need to install the EMC streamer so that EV can use the streamer to write and read data on the ECS. I would like to get some hands on experience with the streamer setup and was wondering if there is a test version available of the streamer software for download (as described in https://www.dellemc.com/resources/en-us/asset/white-papers/products/storage-2/h15309-vertias-vault-emc-elastic-cloud-storage.pdf) , I have an account on the portal.ecstestdrive.com website.

Best regards,
Michiel van Ingen
