Dell Precision 5810 - 685W vs 825W chassis

Hi there,

Iam  looking into the Dell Precision Tower 5000 Series and have a question regarding its power supply. We plan on adding a consumer grade Video card which requires 2 additional 6 pin power connectors. Does the 825W chasis cater for such video cards?

The video card which we will be adding consumes about 300W on full load which, according to the spec sheet, is the maximum consumption for Video cards running on a 685W chasis. Hence we are going with the 825W Chasis instead to be safe.

I have been communicating with Dell over chat however I am not getting through to them as to what I need so this is my next hop :)

thanks and regards,

Tim

Greetings Tim,

Thank you for your question.

The power supply itself doesn't have the connections. However, the power supply does slide into what we call a 'power supply extended card'. This card supports a 6 pin cable that splits off into 2x 6 pin connections. Listed below:

Power supply extended card part number is M6NP2:

It goes here ( this is a picture with the power supply removed ):

6 PIN splitter cable part number D92C9:

Precision 5810 power supply part numbers:

YFY1V - 425W PSU

VDY4N - 685W PSU

RHHKV - 825W PSU

W12Y2 - 1100W PSU

Hi Justin,

Thanks a lot for your reply. You have been very helpful!

Are you aware if the extended card and 6-pin splitter cable comes bundled with the Precision 5810 system by default? we plan on getting some of these towers from the Dell UK website.

Hi Tim,

Happy to work with you on this.

I'm confident that if you order new 5810s from Dell, they will come with the parts. Here's why I think so:

-The 5810 lab unit I was looking at yesterday came with a 685W PSU and the board and cable were both present

-When I use my internal tool to parse out the below SKU it does include the part numbers listed in my previous post to you

Dell Precision Tower 5810 685W TPM Chassis, v2 [321-BBYG]

The SKU was pulled directly from our 5810 customization page's 'print summary' view.
