files in download folder

hi i have a download folder i keep any downloads in after i install the programs should i delete them do they take
any space????? tom

You can delete them without a problem but if you have a dial-up connection to the Internet it is helpful to save the folder on a different partition than C:\. I have my downloads on my E:\ partition. In the event I have to format and reinstall Windows I can then reinstall all those downloaded programs by simply double-clicking. In my case, using a dial-up connection, that would save me nearly a full day of downloading to restore those programs.

If you have DSL, it won't make a significant difference.

Yes the downloaded files will be taking space on your hard drive, but probably nothing that would be worth worrying about. I have the same setup on my computer - I have a downloads folder under My Documents. I usually go in there to clean things up about once a week, as part of my weekly maint. (scandisk/defrag etc.).
