dimension 3000 sata compatible?
I have a dell dimension 3000 desktop computer and I just bought a new internal dvd burner (SATA).
I opened up my computer only to see that it doesn't look like I can install a SATA device. is the dimension 3000 SATA compatible? do I have to make some adjustments to install a SATA device?
thanks for your help.

Sorry, but the D-3000 does not support SATA, only IDE/EIDE drives.
Return the SATA drive and buy a IDE DVD burner.

Yes, you could use a PCI SATA controller card or a SATA to IDE adaptor similar to this.
But, the cost of buying either a controller card or the adaptor, would be close to buying a IDE DVD burner.

Yes, they support non-RAID.

Yes, you should be able to install a SATA optical drive. Remember to set the drive to 'Auto' [on] in the system setup after installation.
You will need a SATA data cable and maybe a 4-pin molex to 15-pin SATA power adaptor, depending on the DVD burner purchased.
Personally, I still use IDE optical drives in my 8400, as they are still working fine.

Good luck and I sincerely hope everything works out.

Ps. I liked the description 'probably two kids sitting at a table in India'. Many a true word said in jest. :)

Sounds like a Vista problem driver problem, but I have no idea if changing to a SATA burner will help
Finding the correct drivers for my 8400 hardware, is one of the reasons, I'm still using XP Professional.
