XPS 400 and the precision 380 are basically the same.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=dell+precision+380

Visually what I can see is that the 380 has PS2 mouse and Keyboard connections and the XPS 400 does not.

The 380 will go to 8 gigs aka 4x 2 gig NON BUFFERED NON Registered LOW DENSITY 1R or 2R DDR2 PC2 5300 or PC2 6400 1.8v  Ram. If you cant get it working you can buy a precision 380 for very little on ebay and 100 percent of everything will transfer to it without issue.

I think the issue is that people try to use Fully Buffered ram on it and that does not work and will not work on the precision 380 or the xps400.

Quad Rank Ram Does not work.

XPS 400 Computer Memory RAM can be upgraded upto 4 GB with 32-bit Operating System and 8 GB with an EMT64 capable CPU and 64-bit Operating System.
