Subwoofer not working

I connected a Pioneer subwoofer to my XPS 8500. I selected the 5.1 Speaker configuration and when I do the "Auto Test" from the Dell Audio program, the subwoofer works. However, when I play any other type of audio, sound only comes out of my left and right speakers. Is there something else I need to configure? Thanks.

Hi C-R,

Please make sure the speakers are set to the 5.1 Channel output. To check the settings please follow the steps below.

  1. Click start
  2. Click All Programs, click Dell Audio and then Dell Audio by Realtek to launch the utility.

If the woofers are still not working. I would advise you to reinstall the audio driver from the following link.

For Windows 7 64 bit: http://dell.to/V5Ypog

For Windows 8 64 bit: http://dell.to/TkCFqe

Hope this helps. Please reply for any further questions.

It is set to the 5.1 Speaker and when I select "Auto Test" the subwoofer works, but when I play any other type of audio, only the speakers work.

Hi C-R,

I did some more research on this and checked the the Pioneer speakers will work best if the Speaker Size is set to Small (check the picture below). Please try this and check if it resolves the issue.

Do reply with the results.

It didn't work. I have Bose speakers and the subwoofer is Pioneer. The subwoofer is connected to the center/subwoofer output on the back of the computer.

Hi C-R,

As the setup is working while running the sound test the speakers and the system seems to be working fine. However, there may be compatibility issues. Please share the model number of the Bose and Pioneer speakers so that I can check for any known issues. I would also recommend you to try this setup on another computer and check if the sub woofer is working.

I was also doing some online research, I found this resolution please try this steps and see if it helps.

Open Windows Media Player, right-click on the player screen, click more options, click devices, highlight "speakers", click properties, select Default Audio Device from the drop down menu, click apply, then click OK.

Please reply for any further support.

if you are not using surround or 5.1 audio the sub will not work and all the sound will come out of the left and right front speakers. The sound is not split unless you are listening to a 5.1 audio signal or you have a decoder that has a pro logic audio conversion, which simulates a 5.1 or surround signal

Alright, I finally got the subwoofer to work by going to the speakers properties, going to the enhancements tab, and selecting "Environment (Room), Equalizer (Rock), and Bass Management.

Hi, it is the only advise google found it came with the setup from the Dell U3011 monitor. I have almost simulaire problem.

I get sound to my stereo. The strange thing if i do the sound check the subwoofer test sound is going to left surround (back) speaker.

I have a stereo receiver rxv496rds  with active subwoofer connected. It does not receive a subwoofer signal to pass trough the receiver to the supwoofer which is conected to the rca connecter

laptop onscreen dell monitor configure there are no bass out options to change and the monitor only can select 5.1

Strange thing is if i nut use hdi sound connect 3.5 jacket steoro to rca stereo input connection the receiver can make out it self sound to push to the subwoofer. Dell monitor can not push the right info to his connection center/subwoofer out.

As advised also reinstallend rebout the driver but it were also the same drivers. no new update of this driver. May be the dell /interprocessor in the monitor which is does the job wrong splitsing the audio signals from the hdmi to right connections?

The problem is the monitor/laptop  has no optical out, receiver has no hdmi

I changed also left and right rca stereo maybe the dell monitor pushed the signal for subwoofer only over 1 kabel, red or white. Did not help
