Pentium III Processor recognized as Pentium II Processor

when using the Intel camera pro pack I purchased with the computer, the camera software recognizes
the computer as a Pentium II Processor rather than Pentium III Processor . Would appreciate suggestion to
correct this.( Dimensions xps B series Pentium III Processor at 733 MHz)
thank you

The Intel software was probably written before the PIII was developed.

What enhancement are you missing? I can't find any mention of any enhancement offered by the Pentium III processor on Intel's site, other than improved performance offered by a faster processor (seen here). You might also check the Intel site for any patches for your software or drivers. Finally, is the Pentium III processor being recognized as one in Windows itself?

thank you for the response. The software has an enhancement if you have a Pentium III Processor
my problem is I don't get the enhancement because it doesn't recognize it as a Pentium III Processor
thank you

Thank you for your response. I contacted Intel PC camera support. They said there was a possibility that the
BIOS was corrupt. I thought sense the computer was only a few weeks old that this wasn't possible.

The enhancement is in the Intel videophone portion when using a Pentium III Processor. I couldn't find any mention on the Intel Web site, but it is part of the specifications on the video instructions that came with the camera. and camera software lists the computer as a Pentium II Processor.
Thank you

How is the processor listed in the BIOS? Is it listed correctly in System Properties (START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL | SYSTEM)?

Gee Dave, I just looked at mine and it too is listed as a P II.

It is a 550 and runs like a bat out of h___, but seems to suffer an identity problem...

Where does it tell you it is a PII? The BIOS or Windows?

BTW, which version of Windows are you running on? Windows 98 (not SE) cannot tell it's a PIII.

That is Pentium III.

What does the computer's BIOS say the CPU is?

EsQUIRE: Well that solves my question, I'm running Win98.

Sounds better than the conspiracy theory someone offered!

Off the subject, your location is listed as "Hongkong, GB" - Is that wishful thinking????

It's a tribute to what it once was - a great city of the British Empire.

That's definitely not true. If you are running the first edition of Windows 98, look here for the explanation:

Thank you for explaining, and I will second that.

I understand that inspite of all the flowery reports from CNN & company, there was a mass exodus before PRC took over.
