Your best bet would be to contact the technical support department of the manufacturer of the card.

Teach24, if the card's tech support gives the "standard reply" of updating the BIOS then post back here with your full Dell model number.  Someone will then be able to give you additional assistance.  I doubt a BIOS upgrade will help, but depending on the model there may have been a fix or improvement made in the BIOS code related to PCI ports.

Hey, I have had the same problem with my pci express firewire card, and i was wondering what you do to make it work.  My computer screen is blank when my computer is booted with card installed as well.  Any help would be more than appreciated.

Mlawman7, since nobody has listed their Dell model numbers yet the best I can recommend is to update your BIOS to the latest version.  If you're lucky and you have the same model, the BIOS upgrade may correct the problem.  You can click here to select your model to find the latest BIOS release.

This is my first posting so I'm not sure if this is the right place. This may not have to do with this specific problem. I have an Inspiron E1702 and I need a 6 pin fire wire connection. I bought a SIIG 2 firewire port adapter but when I plug it in the computer recognizes the adapter but slows down dramatically. When I plug something in with firewire and try to access it, I get the hour glass for about 2 minutes and then I get a message about an I/O problem. I also get the blank screen when I turn the computer on with the adapter plugged in. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Sweet Boy, since this forum is for Dell desktop BIOS topics, I would suggest posting your problem in the Inspiron - Upgrade Hardware forum.  You can click here for a direct link to that forum.
