Optiplex gx280 processor upgrade

Hi

I am looking to upgrade my pentium 4 530 3ghz processor that I have on my foxconn ls36 mb s775. I am unsure if this is the original mb of the computer, and I don't know if I can upgrade to a core2duo.  I know it is kinda old, but still...

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,
Sergiu

The GX 280 does not support any Dual Core processors.

You can find a list of supported processors, below:

D7459 Prescott P4 Kit, 520, 2.80G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T
P8606 Prescott P4 Kit, 520, 2.80G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
DD517 Prescott P4 64bit Kit, 521, 2.80G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
RG427 Prescott P4 64bit Kit, 521, 2.80G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, G1
D7460 Prescott P4 Kit, 530, 3.00G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T
R8419 Prescott P4 Kit, 530, 3.00G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
D7462 Prescott P4 Kit, 540, 3.20G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T
N8590 Prescott P4 Kit, 540, 3.20G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
DD519 Prescott P4 64bit Kit, 541, 3.20G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
D7463 Prescott P4 Kit, 550, 3.40G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T
M8964 Prescott P4 Kit, 550, 3.40G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
GH035 Prescott P4 64bit Kit, 551, 3.40G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, G10
D7464 Prescott P4 Kit, 560, 3.60G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T
P8605 Prescott P4 Kit, 560, 3.60G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
M8965 Prescott P4 Kit, 570, 3.80G, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0

You could use a P4 hyperthreading processor, but this is not a true Dual Core CPU.

Hi Sergiu,

No, your system will not support a Core2Duo. This thread lists some options.

i bought a Intel Pentium4 prescott 3,4/1M/800 (550) HT, SL7J8. After the install, i got a messages "Alert! Incompatible Processor Detected. System Halted". I tested it other power supply (305W), same as the result. bios is 08, latest.

I am curious will the p4 650 be compatible? and how can I tell if a cpu will be compatible or not? is it the 04A or 04B etched on the cpu?

Hi Walt,

No, the P4 650 is not in the compatible list posted above. My suggestion would be to check the list above to find a CPU that's compatible.

yes i noticed that  but want to know if it would. I also would like to know how to identify if a cpu will be compatible or not?

Best to use the list of compatible processors already posted in this thread.

GX280 does not come with 305w power supply 200 or 250 is standard.

Rather than upgrade a newer system would be in order aka GX620 , GX745, GX755, GX760.

There isn't a 305w power supply for the GX280 and a standard power supply does not fit.
