Mouse & Keyboard frozen in Windows XP media

I have an XPS 400 desktop with 2 each 149 GB hard drives configured in a RAID0 ARRAY. The mouse and the keyboard function properly until Windows start at this point the light on the mouse goes out. The problem started when point Windows started announcing that new hardware was found. At this time although in device manger USB was showing up with the big yellow question mark the mouse and keyboard were still functional. I was in the process of reinstalling the drives off a cd the system was required to reboot after that the mouse and the keyboard were frozen in both safe mode and in normal boot. I don't have an original disk for original Windows XP I have a disk that is labeled Operating system already installed on your computer, which doesn't do you a bit of good when you can't navigate in Windows. Any ideas? I have tried a version of Windows XP Professional there is no floppy on the machine so if you use F6 there is no way to install third party drivers.
