Hi Eric,

I have Corel WordPerfect Office 2000, which includes WordPerfect 9.

I'll answer the easy question first: Yes, WP will use a lot of resources, and no you can't get them back. When they get really low, all you can do is reboot.

Now the tough question: Did you add Service Pack 1 & 2 to the basic WP software? Go to www.corelcity.com and then on the vertical tabs, select 'corel.com' and eventually you will find support and then downloads. If you don't want to download them, call Corel and order them. As I remember, when you order just svc pack 2, svc pack 1 is included. (The Corel folks will know. They have a standard shipping fee (around $10 or $11 for the svc pack, but that's it.)

If you can't find the area in the Corel web site, I'll try to get the exact URL for you

Now assuming that you did upgrade the software using the service packs, the next step is to uninstall WP and load it back in, then reinstall the service packs.

I had to uninstall WP as service pack 2 would not work. After the reinstall, everything was fine and the service packs could be installed.

I had customized the WP screen to suit my needs. It was a hassle to get it back, but not only did I get it back, I managed to fine-tune it better than before.

If you haven't already done so, I found that the Word Perfect manual on the CD/ROM has been helpful when trying to figure out how to do something. It is at least 700 pages and prints using the Adobe Acrobat reader (which also came loaded on the WP CD/ROM). I went to the office supply discount store and bought a ream of the cheapest 3-hole punch paper and two huge 3-ring binders.

The manual doesn't address problems like yours, but I find it very useful at times.

One other thing (which may have nothing to do with your problem) is to check and see if you have any Corel applications running at startup. Corel will add things to the start menu, and having them there will hog resources.

Eric:

I also had various troubles with WP (Office 2000). (At present, because of various big-time troubles with my Dell, WP isn't installed). Corel has a user forum similar to this one which is very helpful with the ins and outs of the service paks. I've lost the bookmark in my own recent re-format, but I'm sure you can find it through Corel.com.

Not on my machine. I just did a test, opened WP and 8 briefs of various lengths, copied portions of some of them into a blank document, blah, blah, blah.

Closed WP.

30 seconds after close, resources returned to the same level as prior to opening WP.

The only reference I could find to PFPI90.PFC related to group ware and didn't look like your problem.

The best place to look for help is at news://cnews.corel.ca/corelsupport.wordperfectoffice2000-wordperfect_troubleshooting.

Adios!

Hi David, I'm running Win 98SE4.10.2222A and WP9.00.664.

I rebooted the computer and my resources were at 90%. I went into WP and opened and closed some files. I got out and my resources were at 84%. I waited at least 5 minutes and they did not change.

I didn't not use the printer nor do anything else, just in and out of WP.

I just did it again. I got the same result I got earlier. I don't know why you don't recover your resources.

Wish I could help, but I simply don't know the reason.

Adios!
