How to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Pre-OS Install) Driver?
I have a Precision T5500. The drivers detect program recommended I install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Pre-OS Install) Driver (Intel_Rapid-Storage-Technolo_A04_R264762.exe). I downloaded the file to a folder and unzipped the files. The web page for the driver then states "Follow the instructions to complete the installation."
But the readme files are not clear. There is no exe file to run. How do I run the install?
These are the files in the folder:
F6Readme.txt
iaAHCI.cat
iaAHCI.inf
iaStor.cat
iaStor.inf
iaStor.sys
license.txt
readme.txt
TXTSETUP.OEM
Version.txt

Those look like files you would use to manually install the device from the device manager menu or when you first begin Windows installation. Unless there is something wrong with Intel RST I wouldn't bother with it.

Dell Detect recommended this driver. I don't know the motherboard model, but it has:
Quad Core Intel Xeon Processor X5550 2.66GHz,8M L3, 6.4GT/s,turbo
12GB, DDR3 RDIMM Memory, 1333MHz, ECC
Running Windows-7/64

The F6 install method with XP and the Add Driver from USB Flash Drive in Vista/7/8/10.
Which is why it says F6README.TXT
Detailed Description
Installs the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (RAID) driver version 9.6.0.1014 for Intel® Desktop Boards.
Download the driver (STOR_allOS_9.6.0.1014_PV.exe) and one of the following F6 Driver Diskettes (depending on your operating system): You have to UNZIP the Floppy files.
STOR_all32_f6flpy_9.6.0.1014_PV.zip - F6 driver diskette for Windows 7* (32-bit editions), Windows Vista* (32-bit editions), Windows XP Home Edition*, Windows XP Professional* or Windows XP Media Center Edition*.
STOR_all64_f6flpy_9.6.0.1014_PV.zip - F6 driver diskette for Windows 7 (64-bit editions), Windows Vista (64-bit editions) or Windows XP Professional 64-bit Edition.
Intel RST replaces Intel Matrix Storage Manager. HOWEVER you cannot update to your hearts content from MSM 7 to MSM 8 to RST 9 to RST 10 to RST 11 to RST 12 to RST 13 etc. As the drivers and chipsets get newer the older ICH5 6 7 8 9 etc are dropped from support.
Version 9.6.0.1014 may be the max for your motherboard

Lowest version that supports larger than 2TB is RST Version 10.1.0.1008
Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) driver v9.6 and above.

In general INTEL RST Version 10,11,12,13 ICH8
IMSM = Earlier Version of the Driver.
IMSM is NOT EQUAL to INTEL RST
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) version 9.6 and newer supports 4k sector disks if the device supports 512 byte emulation (512e). Intel® RST does not support 4k native sector size devices.
What happens if I try to use an older version of the driver?
If you try to install the operating system on a 512e disk with a driver older than Intel® RST version 9.6, the install process might not complete. This driver is not validated with your XPS and may not work at all. There will be ZERO support for this if its not working. INSTALLING THIS DRIVER if its not working can lead to 100 percent loss of all data. Do so at your own RISK. Installing a version Higher than the supported chipset does the same thing. All Raid Data lost restart from zero.

If the operating system does install, do not try to upgrade to Intel® RST version 9.6 without reinstalling your operating system.
As the versions go up the support for earlier ICH Goes Down aka not supported.
