How to change my current system configuration on Dell.com

Thanks.  I'll continue to install the latest drivers from the individual HW vendors.  I'll assume for now that all my hardware cards are standard and not special "dell only" boards.

Getting the Current Configuration tab to properly show what OS you have installed will not unlock some secret page of Dell-provided and tested drivers.  If the OS is not available on the Drivers and Downloads page for your model, then that OS is not supported.  That doesn't mean it won't work just fine, but that Dell simply did not test it with the new OS, developing/tweaking drivers where necessary.  On "home" machines, Dell does not maintain support for new OS's as they are released - they officially support only those available during the machine's lifetime, where possible.

As a side-note, my Optiplex 755 shows the correct information (Windows 7 Professional) on the Current Configuration tab -only Vista and XP were supported.  So the scanner didn't seem to work right for you.  Again, this is not critical that this display properly.

I'm assuming you are looking for Windows 7 drivers because something you have doesn't work right after upgrading to Windows 7?  What is it you need?  When Dell does not have drivers for an OS, it is necessary to get them from the various device manufacturers' websites.

Even if they are Dell-branded board, Dell doesn't make computer components - they have them made by mfg's that make them.  For example, Dell-branded drives are made by Seagate, WD, etc., Dell wireless cards are made by Broadcom or Realtek, etc.  Sometimes (especially with a mfg like Realtek), the mfg does not develop the drivers for it and leaves that up to the OEM, so in some cases, those drivers can be more difficult to find, but can usually be found under another system or even another OEM.  Also, with Windows 7, if you can't find a suitable Windows 7 driver, Vista drivers will almost always work.
