If you got there unexpectedly, shut down your computer. Click START, click SHUTDOWN, select SHUTDOWN, and then click OK. If your computer doesn't power down, turn it off. Wait TEN seconds, and then turn it back on, If Windows still starts in Safe Mode, Then you can also use System restore to restore your computer to the most recent configuration in which it started normally.
I manually started it in safe mode by holding down the ALT KEY at startup. I was doing some troubleshooting and was told to do this. I shutdown my computer last night and when I started it up this morning it was still in safe mode. There is suppose to be a way where you can choose what mode to start your computer, but I don't know how to get to it. I am using Windows ME by the way. I have tried different ways of restarting, ie. holding down F5, F8, ALT. None have worked.
First, put a non-bootable floppy disk in your floppy drive. Reboot. When you see the "Non-system disk..." error, remove the floppy disk and press F8 twice. That should display the startup menu, from which you can select Normal.
If that doesn't work, try restoring the registry using the procedures given
here.

I guess what most of us here need to know in order to properly address your issue is: What is it you were troubleshooting in the first place?
Always good to look at what was the latest thing to change in your configuration. It stands to reason that if you were "troubleshooting" you may have ended up "shooting" something else and (consequently) unrelated.
Also, go with Denny's first suggestion and stay away from his second unless you have a fair understanding of exactly what the Registry is and what it does and what can happen if you make the slightest of mistakes while messing around with it.
Although I hate to break in this far up the thread, I should point out that restoring a saved version of the registry hardly qualifies as "messing around with it."

There are two things you can try.
First, put a non-bootable floppy disk in your floppy drive. Reboot. When you see the "Non-system disk..." error, remove the floppy disk and press F8 twice. That should display the startup menu, from which you can select Normal.
If that doesn't work, try restoring the registry using the procedures given here.
