¿GX280 supports dual-core processor?
Hi
I have a Dell GX280 and I wanted to know if this machine supports dual-core processor, now I have a Intel P4 3.0Ghz

No.
The Optiplex GX280 does not support any Dual Core, or Core 2 Duo processors, only Socket LGA 775 single core P4.

Ok
I read in wikipedia that the LGA 775 socket is compatible with the Intel Core 2 Quad - Q8200

Bev, Can you explain why my Optiplex is a intel p4 HT 3.o ghz. HT is hyper thread which supports dual core. How come my mothers optilplex GX 775 has Intel core 2 duo and mine doesnt. Both is Indentical except for the processor?

Hyperthread is Dual thread not dual core.
It makes windows think there are 2 processors when there are in fact only 1.
Hyper-Threading Technology is a form of simultaneous multithreading technology introduced by Intel. Architecturally, a processor with Hyper-Threading Technology consists of two logical processors per core, each of which has its own processor architectural state. Each logical processor can be individually halted, interrupted or directed to execute a specified thread, independently from the other logical processor on the chip. Unlike a traditional dual core processor configuration that uses two separate physical processors, the logical processors in a Hyper-Threaded core share the execution resources. Intel released the nehalem (Core i7) in November 2008 in which hyper-threading made a return. The first generation Nehalem contained four cores and effectively scaled eight threads. Since then, both two- and six-core models have been released, scaling four and twelve threads respectively.
