Error message when attempting to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330) - Code 80004005 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.
I have tried numerous times to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330) with no avail. The error message that I am receiving on my Dell Dimension E521 is: Code 80004005 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.
OS: Vista 32-bit
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2.10 GHz
Memory: 958 MB
Any suggestions?

Hello,
That could be a Windows validation error.
Go to this Microsoft page and 'Validate' your copy of Windows. Then try the update again.

My Windows has been validated. Error message still pops-up.

Microsoft offers free support for service pack issues, and critical updates. :emotion-21:
:emotion-55: Give them a phone call, and try not to mention that you own a Dell, or they may push you back to Dell support.

You're not alone in having problems installing Vista SP1 through Windows Update :emotion-6:
I'd suggest you download (what I'll call - for want of a better word) the 'stand-alone' version instead :emotion-55:
It's a 435MB file though, so I hope you've got a broadband connection?
