Dual Display on Optiplex 330 w/ATI 2400 Pro
Just received a new system and we're planning to run dual display on it. The video card claims it supports this feature- but there is only one output.
Do I connect to the DVI output and use the onboard VGA output for the second monitor?
Update...
Bottom line: it doesn't work.
The 2400 Pro card that Dell sells is not the same as the card you'd get anywhere else. Even though ATI's website told me the card had VGA and DVI outputs and supports dual monitors, it won't if you buy that card from Dell. They told me to buy the XT version. I told them to take a hike and bought a "real" 2400 Pro from another vendor.

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Is there a white connection for dvi and a blue connection for vga on this card?

Can you drive two monitors in extended desktop mode using one of these 2-into-1 cables plugged into the ATI 2400 Pro?

I used the tech chat feature (which tried to send me to the email form- already made that mistake) and supposedly you can plug in a 2-into-1 DVI cable and this card will drive two monitors. The tech also assured me it would handle extended desktop mode.
So all I need is that cable. Ooops... where can you find such a cable?

I also had youir same problem, and had on-line chats about the issue. I then contacted Jesse, who sent me the below message. Basically, the video card you describe is not designed, and will not support dual monitors in extended desktop mode. I bought the dual cable you have been told about, but you get the same screen on both monitors, and extended desktop will not activate. I did as Jesse suggested and called Dell. They shipped me the correct video card at no cost. It now works just great. Your card is for a monitor and a TV setup.
Good luck!
ddaugette,
Use the S-video connection to attach the video card to a TV or S-video display device. You can configure a dual-display configuration with one DVI/VGA display and a TV, but this configuration is not recommended.
Disregard what the tech told you about the firmware. It is irrevant to the dual monitors.
You will need to contact customer care and return the 2400 pro card and get the 2400 xt low profile card for dual dvi montors. Ask them also if it comes with the dual dvi dongle. The customer care number to call is 1-800-624-9897.
Thanks,
Jesse

I'm running into the same problem with an XPS 210. It has the low profile card. Do you think the solution you suggested here will work for me?
I also purchased the ATI 2400 Pro for it's advertised ability to run dual monitors, but if I read you right, the card does not support this.

I don't know about the system you have. However, the 2400 Pro card in my system had one DVI output and one S-video output. It would not support dual monitors - it is designed to support one monitor and a TV. The 2400 xt low profile, with the supplie dongle supplied with the card, works perfectly.

You are absolutely correct. After weeks of going round and round with Dell the tech finally admitted that the card will not support dual monitors. This is despite it being advertised as such. They are shipping me the 2400 XT and since I all ready have a collection of the correct 2400 XT cables...I hope to put this mess behind me and move on.
God bless you and thank you very much for your time and help.
