I bought an E6300 Conroe with the idea of trying it in a 5150, but I haven't gotten around to it.

I'd be interested in finding out if it will work.

Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors are not supported.

That's interesting, please report back with the results, as I believe that Core 2 Duo, or Core 2 Quad processors require updated voltage regulators, the E510/5150 does not have, hence the reason for the E520.

Bev, I think you're right and an updated mainboard is needed for the E6300.

The E510 is what it is, unless its mainboard is replaced with an updated model like that of the E520. (I think that's possible.)

The 5100, although similar, predates the E510.  The 5150 is identical to the E510.

the 5150 is exacly the same it just has a faceplate and has a memory card reader it came out 2 or 3 months after the 5100 the e5100 is just a newer vewrsion i think of the 5100

the core 2 duo has the same socket  type but i would need a new heat sink as it get allot hotter than a Pentium look at the socket type for the seris

on this forum i think it might help with this

en.community.dell.com/.../19782512.aspx

he explains at almost the last post that it could go up to a celeron would that work has anyone tryed it

it might help withe the 5150,e5100,5100c,e5150 and some more

i can get a bigger power suply it is possible it might help

i did some reserch on the core 2 duo it takes less power does get a little hot and a 1.4 can beat a pentium d 2.4 so it should work in this system, But i dont want to mess up the board so a little help has anyone tryed it

if you search Google for dell oj8885 witch is the mother board i have in it is has a link to lintel with

ark.intel.com/system.aspx and if you hit com pair you get

ark.intel.com/.../27720,27683,27250 witch is basically tells you that it will work but i am afraid to try as you see i have a windows oem disk for vista witch i can upgrade as much as i want but as long as it isn't the mother board it is tied to the first computer you install it on and i went this way because is is allot cheaper than a retail disk and works the same and no need for the product key as it install es it itself

i just finished a really long chat with dell to SEE if the dell dimension 5100 could hold the core 2 duo i wish i could post the chat but i tried and it got deleted so the said that it will go up to the core 2 duo no further witch makes sense if you look as the core 2 duo it meet the requirements i will post maybe a document with the chat session
