Dell Dimension 4400 PSU Replacement.
Hi there i have a friend that has brung me a Dell Dimension 4400 to fix as it was dead...I have tested the PSU and found this is the problem on why it is not booting up.
Now the question i need answered is it safe to use any PSU as i have heard that using a diffrent PSU on Dell machine's can cause the motherboard to fry, i have noticed that the connection is of a normal atx psu i have also noted that if i was to use a normal PSU i will need to mod the case slightly for the switch to be accessable as the Dell one does not have one on it.
Basically this is all i need to know as i don't want to fry his motherboard and have to end up replacing it myself lol.
Many thank's :)

The Dimension 4400 uses a standard generic ATX power supply with either a 20-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector, without the on/off switch, if you use a PSU with the switch, then you will have to modify [cut a hole] the back panel of the case for it.
You can buy a compatible replacement power supply either from Here for $39.00

Thank's Bev for such a fast reply.
So what you are saying is that any Standard PSU will be fine (This is a 400 i will be using) and won't get any problem's?
I have one to hand at the moment that was pulled from a working computer so modding the case would not be a problem as long as he has his PC working again.
Thank's again

Yep, as I posted most standard ATX power supplies will be fine, as the Dimension 4400 does not use a Dell proprietary unit, but if the power supply has the on/off switch, you will need to cut a hole in the back panel for it.
