Dell Data Vault causing errors

It looks like Dell installed new software that is causing errors on my XPS 8500. What is it and why is this error coming up?

I'm not sure what issues that data vault service is causing you but I do know many other people including myself have had a horribly unknowing issue with it causing horrible pops and squelching noises while trying to enjoy audio and video on our systems. (mine being an XPS laptop) I've been trying to remedy this for weeks as some people said uninstalling this did not fix the audio/video problem.

What I did not realize was that delldatavault.exe runs as a service in the background. I discovered this while viewing my resource monitor and watching that particular service cause severe spikes in the CPU and disk activity which were the exact moments the interference in the audio/video would occur.

Completely disabling the service altogether, has finally relieved my migraine...

Dell is aware of these issues, which were caused by a recent update to Data Vault. And as Toolrox mentioned, the work-around is to disable the Data Vault service on the Services tab in msconfig.

Dell is working on a fix...

Exact same problem.  Delldatavault.exe crashes shortly after startup every time.  Running Windows 8.1, fully updated machine, no malware, etc.  Click on "Check for a solution" in Reliability Monitor, and get, "No new solutions found."  Is there a specific fix yet?  Seems the app might be useful, and disabling it seems a crude fix.

Always include PC model in your posts...

You probably need to uninstall SupportAssist and then download / install the latest version.

This morning my macnine was unable to boot. After resurrecting it, I have checked the event log, and discovered that the maginificient software of the mighty Dell still (again?) dies. Anyone knows what is the Dell Data Vault, and if I can disable it without any negative effect why is this extremely useful piece of the state of the art sofware engineering is installed on my machine at all?

Always include exact PC model and version of Windows in your posts.

Data Vault was put there to back up your personal files and data in the cloud. It might not be compatible with the most recent "Creators Build" version of Win 10, if that's what you're running

Disabling the Data Vault service should stop the problems, but DV will no longer be able to back up your files, assuming you subscribe to that service.

It's safe to uninstall Data Vault if you don't want to use it.
