Creative Diagnostics - How to get that program ?

Hi guys,

I got a XPS Gen 3 with a Creative Audigy 2 ZS Soundcard, and recently I tried to install the new drivers on the dell support page. Now I need some program called "Creative Diagnostics" which seems to be not installed on my system, and as I am unable to find it on the dell page, nor on the soundblaster page, I'd like to ask you, anyone got that one ? Maybe I got it installed, but then there's something else missing as I can't isntall the new drivers and get an error message that some software is missing to install it ...

Thx in advance

Did you check under Start>All Programs> Creative> Soundblaster Audigy 2? That is where the shortcuts to Diagnostics and all other Creative programs should be. If it's not there, uninstall the Creative/Soundblaster software (fron Control Panel>Add/Remove programs). Reboot and then reinstall from the Soundblaster CD.

Hi,

First thx for the answer :)

I already reinstalled the whole CD provided by Dell for the Soundcard, I found the installed Diagnostics tool but I still get the odd message when trying to install the drivers downloaded from the support page from dell here :/ I am sure that it is for my card, as I downloaded the driver on the update center page where I entere my Service Tag.

Just a question. Why do you think you need to install "new" drivers? Are you having sound problems. If so, what are they?

There's no absolute need to install new drivers, there's no sound problems so far, but I update my drivers once a monthto prevent any new software which I install to produce any errors due to outdated drivers. And now I noticed that I am unable to update the drivers of my soundcard

My experience has been that more problems are caused by "updating" drivers than anything else. Of course, if you have some problem, or get notification of a recommended update, that's different. Otherwise, if all features are working properly, leave well-enough alone! Just my opinion.

PS. Contrary to what some people think, updating soundcard drivers will not give better quality sound, assuming the current drivers are working properly.

Is it a listed patch when you search "Downloads" by entering your Service Tag?

For me, yes

Just checked. I didn't bother to install it because it only corrects some obscure display problem which didn't apply to me. So don't worry about it.
