EMC CX300
Hi,
I have a EMC CX300 storage unit with dual EMC 0050448349. I need to connect this storage to an IBM x3550 server. Please advice which HBA PCI card I need to buy.
Thank you.

An easier way may be to log into your Powerlink account, look for the "E-Lab Interoperability Navigator" and in there select your CX300, your IBM x3550 server and the OS you intend to run. If you leave the HBA choice 'open', it'll tell you all supported HBAs for your combo under the "base connectivity" section.

If you have a PCI-X option you can look for a used QLA2340. These are supported by the CX300 with most OSes, but I'm not sure if they're supported by/in your server.
You'd have to check if it's supported by your server and especially your OS, but I think the QLE220 (PCIe) has limited OS support and may be supported for the CX300. This is a lower end HBA offering. Off my head it's only supported with SuSE, Red Hat and Windows (no Unix flavors or ESX).

When your Powerlink account is active, you have to register your CX300's serial number. That will allow you to download patches and documentation related to the storage array. One such document is the "Customer CLARiiON Procedure Generator." This document expires every 14 days, produces documentation to set up the CX300, attach hosts, install HBA's, etc. This is the same as the EMC internal procedure generator, but it does not have the administrative EMC documentation requirements (CCA, etc.) in it.
I'm not sure if this shortcut will work for you:
https://powerlink.emc.com/nsepn/webapps/btg548664833igtcuup4826/km/live1/en_US/Offering_Technical/Software_Download/Customer_CLARiiONproc.exe?mtcs=ZXZlbnRUeXBlPUttQ2xpY2tTZWFyY2hSZXN1bHRzRXZlbnQsZG9jdW1lbnRJZD0wOTAxNDA2NjgwMzkxMGE2LGRhdGFTb3VyY2U9RENUTV9lbl9VU18w&file=Customer_CLARiiONproc.exe
Also, unfortunately, the QLA/QLE 200 series (200, 210, 220) are not supported with the CX300, only with the AX series.

How come if I look in the September 2008 support matrix here on page 2495 subnote 13 I see the QLA200 supported for the CX300 and CX3-10c and on page 2497 subnote 30 it shows the QLE220 as supported for the CX300 and CX3-10c?

Hi,
Thank you all for the replies. I checked my server(IBM X3550). It has 2 x PCI-E slots. Please let me know Emulex Dual PT 4GB PCIE HBA LPe11002-E hp 797740-001 is compatibale to go with CX300 please.

Look for the CX-arrays, then the server manufacturer, then your OS and then the HBA.

In this case, Qlogic doesn't post a supported driver in the EMC driver download section for use by the CX series, only the AX series. The EMC Support matrix (or Elab Navigator) is just the first place to check for supportability (even though further down in the document, it states that the requested X3550 server also supports the 200 series with the CX300.) You should download only the supported driver, in the EMC section of the Qlogic web site.
CX series HBA's: http://driverdownloads.qlogic.com/QLogicDriverDownloads_UI/OEM_Product_List.aspx?oemid=65
AX series HBA's: http://driverdownloads.qlogic.com/QLogicDriverDownloads_UI/OEM_Product_List.aspx?oemid=284
