Then why, if SAN Copy for example is listed as "active"
when I try to run the SAN Copy Create Session Wizard, I get this message:
"No storage system with SAN Copy enabler installed in the domain. The SAN Copy Create Session Wizard can not continue."
MirrorView gives me this:
"All the storage systems connected to the selected server do not have any mirror packages installed."
SnapView seems to want to let me complete configuring a snapshot but I didn't go all the way....perhaps it is included with base.
I was/is my understanding that the software can be installed on the array but not enabled without the enabler there (file with ".ena" extension ?). So the customer can buy a license for a feature like SAN Copy and all that needs to happen is adding the enabler. I would have thought that "active" = "enabled" but apparently not. See list below:
Software Revision Need Commit Active? -NavisphereAnalyzer - NO YES Base 03.26.080.5.008 NO YES Navisphere 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES ManagementServer 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES ManagementUI 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES SnapViewUI 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES SANCopyUI 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES MirrorViewUI 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES AnalyzerUI 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES QoSManagerUI 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES QoSManagerProvider 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES CLIProvider 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES MirrorProvider 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES SnapCloneProvider 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES SnapViewProvider 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES SANCopyProvider 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES SnapView 03.26.003.5.006 NO YES MirrorView 03.26.003.5.004 NO YES SANCopy 03.26.003.5.002 NO YES MirrorView/A 03.26.003.5.002 NO YES AnalyzerProvider 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES FA_MIB 6.26.0.0.18 NO YES SIWRules 6.26.2.0.2 NO YES FLARE-Operating-Environment 03.26.080.5.011 NO YES -SnapView - NO YES EMCRemoteNG 01.08.5.001 NO YES -NavisphereManager - NO YES -AccessLogix - NO YES
I would think that if the sw is indeed already installed just not 'enabled' it would be a non event to put the enabler on the box but that wasn't the case for our cx3 with 24 code. to put the enabler on required the sp's to reboot.
Is the "enabling" process of turning on an installed software component a non-event to the host or does it require and SP reboot/recycle that relies on the attached host's multipathing to work properly?
Countzero, If you look at the list of software on the Software tab of the properties of the array in Navisphere, you will see the list of software that has been enabled and is active for use on the array.
An enabler is just a piece of code that is used to enable the software module within Navisphere. The license is only a line item that is purchased from your vendor, and is not used within Navisphere. The enabler is the only piece that is used to 'enable' features of Navisphere. So what you see on the Software page is what has been enabled for your array (and therefore purchased / licensed).
Ah, so it looks like the 'hidden' enabler indication is the "-" in front....which makes sense because as I mentioned, Analyzer works also. Why couldn't EMC just put the word "enabler" in there somewhere.
The enabler use by the support is only for enable navisnalyzer in the case the customer face a performance issue and is the only one can be installed without reboot .
In eng mode all the package will be show also in the GUI ... if you disable the eng mode you will se only the enabler you have installed on your clariion. Regards
AranH speaketh thusly: ".... which is why I recommended you use the GUI to look at the array properties It will only show you the enabled software."
The list I provided *was* from the GUI or at least it's the same list....the GUI does show SAN Copy, MirrorView, etc. even though they are not enabled. (Or maybe it's because I'm in engineering mode that it shows them all??)

The software is installed but not usable until you install the enabler .
From the list you provide on this clariion you have the following enabler :
Snapview
Access Logix
Navisphere Manager .

Does this mean if we have an EMC CE or Support enable the software that we can avoid the SP reboot?

For performing an online NDU you need to have powerpath or equivalent multipath software installed on the host .
There is one enabler use by the support is a rebottless but is not for customer use .

The list I provided *was* from the GUI or at least it's the same list....the GUI does show SAN Copy, MirrorView, etc. even though they are not enabled. (Or maybe it's because I'm in engineering mode that it shows them all??)

You receiveth thine answer from thine EMCers
So... why are you in engineering mode?
