m17 R2, storage upgrade?
Hi,
I am trying to Upgrade my Alienware m17 R2 Laptop. I got the default option (Where you don't pay for anything extra), and I want to get more memory on my system.
Right now, I'm trying to Upgrade my SSD from 256 Gb. I've been looking Online, and I don't see any HDD for this Laptop. Does this Model Have a Slot for HDD's? I wanted to Set Boot Priority to my Current 256 SSD, and have my HDD as my Main Storage.
Also, Does anyone know which one I have to Buy, I don't want to end up buying memory that isn't compatible for my Model.

You are looking for a 2.5" drive and you do not have the ability to have that form. What you want is an M.2 SSD as your system can hold 2 M.2 NVMe/PCIe SSDs. You can see the service manual here for more information. And look here for compatible drives. And do not buy the SATA SSD as the NVME drive is about 5 x faster.
Table 1. Storage specificationsStorage type Interface type Capacity
M.2 2280 solid-state drive
SATA AHCI, up to 6 Gbps
Up to 2 TB
M.2 2230/2280 solid-state drive
PCIe Gen3.0x4 NVMe, up to 32 Gbps
Up to 2 TB

Thank you and sorry for my bad english.

Are you saying that we cannot swap out the 2.5" HDD for a 2.5" SSD?
Thanks!

Well yes, there is no 2.5" SSD or HDD - They are M.2 drives. There are two slots for M.2 drives in the m17 R2. These M.2s are faster anyways, so that's good.

Um hi
I have a question here
I’m new to computer and I was thinking to add a sad to the laptop cause my friend told me there’s an empty slot for it on the m17 r2 I got last year and I was thinking to use the Samsung 970 evo plus 2tb can I ask if it works on it
I’m not sure if it works and I’m scared so I was researching all online but I’m still not really sure if it works there’s people saying the Samsung ssds will have problem working on Alienware laptops but I really don’t understand what they’re saying
Can I ask if the Samsung works on my laptop and is there anything I should be aware of.
Thanks

You realise that there are versions WITH 2 1/2" drives, and 2 free RAM slots as well, right?

You realize that you are replying to a 2 year old thread, right? lol. I'm sure they figured it out by now.
