Unable to run WIndows update after image reset Windows 10 with error (0x80240fff

I reset my Alienware 15 R2 using the factory image and now can't apply any windows updates with error (0x80240fff).

I've tried a number of procedures to fix this around resetting services etc, and clearing the Software Distribution folder. Nothing work. I had applied bios updates prior to figuring out Windows Update wasn't working.

Any help is appreciated

The following sites should help and it is a known problem from MS. Look at this site and this one as well.

I looked at both. Tried both. Doesn't work I'm on build 1511 but appear to be going no further. Any other things I can try. Do I need to buy a full new retail copy of Windows 10 to bypass the Dell OEM Windows mods that are causing this?

Do not buy. If you have MIcrosoft account Dell computer is registered by them already. But first of all your key is now embedded in BIOS and can be retrieved automatically during the activation process in Windows 10. Theoretically, you will never be asked for a key to activate your machine. But to have the process run smoothly, you will need the right Windows 10

Visit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and download the latest version of "MediaCreationTool"

Afterwards run it. You can create Windows image directly on CD or USB pendrive.

During installation I suggest that you should be connected to the internet. There is no need to enter any serial number. By the way all updates will be downloaded and installed automatically.

I actually went to the Windows Upgrade Center, downloaded and installed the Nov 2019 update manually outside of Windows Update service and it installed and worked. Updates worked after that. I was stuck on Windows Ver 1511.

Thanks for all of the help.

Happy holidays.
