Touchpad not working
Hi,
I am reaching out to you because it's been a few month since my touch pad doesn't work anymore. I'v had this my alienware 14 for 3 years. And suddenly my touch pad stopped working. So i uninstalled the synaptic drivers and installed them back again, but every time i go in the mouse settings i get a message saying that my synaptic driver does not work and i have the choice with clicking yes to uninstall it or no to do nothing.
Thank you for reading,
cordially

Hi,
Can you post a screenshot of that error message? Have you tried using an external keyboard to confirm if it works?

Is this Windows7, 8, or 10? What OS originally came on laptop?
Was there a recent bad event (dropped, water spill, etc.)?
Connect simple external wired-USB mouse so you can try to fix it (and still have control).
Yes, uninstall all Synaptic drivers, driver suites, etc. Double check "Programs & Features" for more to uninstall. Finally delete it from Device Manager and/or Devices and Printers.
Be sure you are able to connect to Internet. Check Control Panel/ System/ Advanced/ Hardware/ Device Installation Settings. Set to Yes-Recommended.
Reboot laptop. It should auto-detect and Windows should give you a useable Touch-Pad driver (for basic functionality).

Hi,
to answer your question this is windows 7Ultimate 64-bit. I tried eveything you said but it still does't work. When i go into mouse properties i read that the driver called PS/2 compatible mouse cannot start (code10) do you think it could be the problem ? Also when i used to go in mouse control pannel I would have a window called synaptic but I dont have it anymore even after reinstalling the synaptic drivers. I also want to add that when I press Fn+ f11 to trun on my touchpad it says on, always.

Hi,
A Code 10 error is generated when Device Manager can't start the hardware device. Since you have already tried reinstalling the synaptic drivers, the issue may be hardware related. Are you running the latest Bios version (A09)?

Hi, I fixed my problem by opening my laptop, unplugging the touchpad and plugging it back on. the only thing is that when I press Fn+f11 for touchpad my one screen display just says on all the time. I can only turn my touch pad off manually in the control panel and everytime i touch it the light turns on.

Hi,
Thank you for confirming this. It sounds like an issue with the wires, but we cannot confirm anything unless we check the system and test it.
