Need help with Xbox controller

Hello I just recently purchased an Alienware Alpha console and I have a problem. I set it up already and made an account and just after the screen says "We're setting things up for you" it went to a desktop background and my Xbox360 controller won't work. I have connected the Xbox receiver already and paired it with the controller and it seems to be connected but I just can't do anything and it looks like It's frozen. And it hasn't gone to "Console mode" like it should have. If someone can help me I'd really appreciate it thanks.
