HDMI port doesn't recognize additional monitors

The HDMI will recognize my TV but when I try to attach it to a monitor to tether/have additional views it doesn't identify any monitors. Do I need to update the drivers? If so which ones, or am I doing something wrong? It is a Alienware M17x from 2009.

This might sound silly but...
Did you try that same monitor with another system?
Also, which monitor are you using?

I tried my dell monitor at work and my acer Led at home, same results.

That doesn't seem to be an issue with the drivers.

And it clearly isn't an issue with the cable.

The only thing that comes to my mind that could possibly fix that, would be running an Alienrespawn.
See if we can get the computer back to the factory defaults and hopefully get it back on running conditions.

New cables, tried the vga port and the same thing. Could the bios need to be adjusted or updated?

Unless you update the BIOS to the latest version.
There's nothing within the BIOS that can adjust that.
I've checked everywhere.
All I can advise you to do would be that restore.
