Alienware M17XR3 starts stuttering after 8-10 minutes of work
Hello everybody,
I got a problem with my Alienware laptop that I have owned for one year. As the title says, it starts stuttering after 8-10 minutes of being switched on, especially in games. First, it freezes completely for 1-2 seconds, then works smoothly for another few seconds, then everything repeats. Not only games stutter, but also Explorer, menus, Web browsers, MS Office apps and others. The loading speed in games has also dropped significantly.
I have tried to defrag the hard drive, optimize and clean the registry, blow the dust out of the system, update all the drivers and re-install Windows, but nothing has helped. I have run BIOS-based system diagnosis, but it didn't report any damage in the hardware.
I have had this problem for 2 months now. I have recorded a little video of running Skyrim, so you get a better idea of what my stutters are like. You can also notice in this video, that the animations and special effects are late to load. Even old games like Duke Nukem 3D or Half-Life 1 stutter.

My graphics card temperature (Nvidia GTX 560m) reaches 69C and the Intel i7 CPU one reaches 79C. Are these temperatures okay?
I can't get help from Dell anymore, since my warranty has expired. I can only hope for advice from the community.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Itvorogov,
To enhance your performance you should try the following:
Click this link to get the Alienware support site.
*Click on Drivers and Downloads link.
*Enter your service tag.
*Download the BIOS A12
*Flash to BIOS A12
*Upon restart, press [F2] repeatedly to get the BIOS screen
*Go to the Advance tab, go to graphic display and change to the other option to select. This will disable the integrated video card. Press [F10] to save and exit
*Re-install the video card driver with the manufacturer's latest driver.
As for the temperatures you are getting, they are normal. Let me know how it goes.

Hello,
I have flashed to BIOS A12 and entered setup. My default primary display setting was PEG when I first accessed it. I changed to SG, which was the other option, and saved and exited. After that my computer shut down and rebooted. Then I re-installed the Nvidia drivers (320.18). Unfortunately, this did not help, and my system still stutters.
However, I noticed several interesting things. On "Main" page, the BIOS shows "Integrated Graphics" as "Not detected". When I change from PEG to SG in primary display setting, save and exit, then reboot and enter BIOS again, the setting is again at PEG. Also, I tried downloading and installing Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver from Dell drivers page, but the setup says that I do not meet the minimum requirements for installation.
Is it some kind of bug? Or do I not have an integrated graphics card at all?

Hi
we have similar issue with an Alienware M17x R4 still in warranty.
We have been all around the houses with re-installing, new games, setting changes with dell-tech to no avail.
Still stutters in the most annoying way. There are lots of similar issues on the forums but only odd fixes.
We had it confirmed to us that there was no hardware fault and it was a driver or corrupt component from one of the games.
I now realise I should have packed it to Dell and told them to fix or replace it but didn't. My bad.
Instead I asked my friendly pc tech shop to have a look. They gave it a thorough going over and said they couldn't find anything
using benchmark test, diagnoses etc and no malware.
Then they called and said they had it working. In order to fix it they swapped out the hard drive.
We have given the machine two heavy sessions and its still flying as if it was fresh out the box.
I dont know if its the same with yours
I am getting the report from the pc shop to forward to Dell.
