Alienware 17 R3 GTX980M Issues ?

Had this laptop from new for 48 hours. Originally it was running on Window 10 but was so slow so I formatted and went to 8.1

Alienware 17 R3

i7 6820HK @2.70GHz (Dell said overclocked 4.1GHz)

16GB DDR4 RAM

GTX 980M 8GB GDDR5

I downloaded all the drivers and at first it kept saying I cannot install nvidia as no graphics detected. I was able to fix it so it does display my driver and my card appears in device manager but in dxdiag my default display is Intel HD 530 and it just feels slow like simple things opening firefox or folders. I have high performance turned on for everything

When I play GTA V it does come up saying I have 8GB free of graphics but in Assassins Syndicate it defaults to Intel at 128MB giving 1-2FPS

Am I doing something wrong as on my old laptop in dxdiag I had another tab called render which did display my card but on this laptop i don't. I have just updated BIOS to latest version and no difference and ran a diagnostic and it said all was good. Even when I tell the laptop to use the GTX980 for everything on reboot it always says intel in dxdiag ?

Could it be slow because I compiled the 8.1 USB the wrong way. I compiled it using GPT. Then when installed I turned safe boot back on. So now in dxdiag it shows the internal at 3968mb (should that not say 8GB ?)

I don't think you can "tell" your Alienware to run the GTX for everything. It will default to Intel Graphics when not using graphics-intensive applications. I don't think the GTX will help with web browsers and folders anyway. But that's just my non-expert opinion. ;)

The fact that the GTX kicks in when you run GTA V indicates to me that the graphics driver is working. You might have to explicitly indicate that the GPU also be used for Assassin's Creed. Perhaps via GeForce Experience or something similar.

Syndicate seems to be fixed. Although its saying like 3GB used of 128mb its fine. My only concern is why in dxdiag it doesn't display my GTX in either the display tab or the fact I don't have a render tab. I guess someone else with same specs as me could confirm how their dxdiag looks ?
